Target’s Chief Information and Product Officer on ‘the Most Transformative Period in Applied AI’

Target’s Chief Digital and Product Officer, Prat Vemana, joined InnoLead on stage at our Impact 2024 conference last October. Among the topics he discussed with InnoLead co-founder Scott Cohen:

  1. How generative AI is transforming every aspect of enterprise software, and making intelligence more accessible. “I believe we are probably in the one of the most transformative periods in applied AI… every piece of software, every function within the organization, five to 10 years from now, is going to be powered with intelligence in your hands,” Vemana said.
  2. Target is actively integrating GenAI into both guest and employee experiences, with practical deployments already live: “We rolled out a chatbot for store associates… you just take a picture, and the GenAI says, “Oh, there’s milk actually spilled… It’ll actually give you the procedure on how to clean that as well.”
  3. Innovation at Target is both centralized for infrastructure and decentralized for functional creativity, with dedicated spaces like hackathons and growth boards.
  4. Target carefully evaluates partnerships with startups, focusing on the importance of integration with their own data and systems.
